A Volunteer Opportunity, with a Partner!!

May we introduce to you Dr. Steven Jones. He is a retired Internist with NWP who treated our members at the Rockwood clinic from 2000-2019. He has graciously reached out to KaPeRs with a unique volunteer opportunity.

When good people get together, great things and personal engagement just seem to happen! KaPeRs members demonstrate this when you share new ideas and recent personal experiences. It keeps us connected in ways that mirror that wonderful sense of “team” we all practiced during our careers.

Dr. Steven Jones has reached out to KaPeRs leadership and asked for our help. He is offering potential opportunities to participate as a board member in the community with a local organization called Outside In (https://outsidein.org/ ).  He personally volunteers for Outside In and is looking for a new board member with health care experience such as a nurse, a physician, or a mid-level. Outside In works with houseless youth and other disadvantaged people to eliminate barriers to health and wellness.

An interest in harm reduction, trauma informed care, working with housing- and/or food- insecure individuals, and other individuals who have faced barriers to receiving services like health care would be valuable to his team.

Dr. Jones is also looking for individuals who have identities that align with those of his clients, namely persons of color, female or gender fluid, and/or persons with lived experience of being housing- or food-insecure or are in recovery.

Using his experience reaching out to specific individuals whom he thought would be good candidates, he concluded that retirees are much more likely to be ready to take on volunteer board work. He has reached out to KaPeRs and we want to share this opportunity and information with all of you!
